Amul Issues Warning: Is Your Ghee Authentic?

As Diwali approaches, the demand for traditional sweets prepared with authentic ghee is on the rise. However, Amul, one of India’s most trusted ghee brands, has recently warned consumers about a surge in counterfeit ghee in the market. The brand has shared specific guidelines to help customers distinguish between genuine and fake products.

Why the Concern?

During the festive season, families look to enjoy sweets made with Amul ghee, a trusted staple for many years. However, a significant concern has emerged: counterfeit ghee being sold in one-liter packs bearing the Amul brand name. Amul revealed that they have not produced one-liter refill packs for over three years, making any one-liter pack currently on the market a fake. This fake ghee fails to meet quality standards and may even pose health risks.

New Packaging for Enhanced Security

In response to the rise in counterfeit products, Amul has introduced a new duplication-proof carton pack. This packaging comes with a seal of authenticity, indicating that the ghee is packed at Amul’s ISO-certified dairies using the latest aseptic filling technology to uphold high quality and safety standards.

How to Verify Your Amul Ghee

Amul has also provided a toll-free number, 1800 258 3333, allowing customers to verify their ghee’s authenticity. Customers with concerns can call for confirmation and ensure their product is genuine.

Related Incidents and Brand Integrity

This isn’t the first time Amul has faced counterfeit-related controversies. Earlier, the brand was linked in social media rumors suggesting that animal fat was used in TTD laddus, a sacred offering. Amul quickly clarified that it has never supplied ghee to TTD. Additionally, in November 2023, authorities busted a factory in Delhi NCR manufacturing fake ghee, which was being packaged in containers of popular brands like Amul, Patanjali, and Mother Dairy.

Ensuring Consumer Safety

With Diwali around the corner, Amul’s steps towards duplication-proof packaging offer an extra layer of security for consumers. The brand’s new measures aim to protect customers from harmful counterfeit products, providing peace of mind for those seeking quality and purity in their festive ingredients.
