Not Punjab or Haryana: THIS State is Experiencing the Most Stubble Burning Amid Choke Season

Recent government data indicates a notable decline in stubble burning incidents, with Punjab experiencing a 35% decrease and Haryana seeing a 21% reduction compared to last year. Overall, stubble burning has dropped by 51% since 2017.

New Delhi: As the national capital grapples with poor air quality, the Delhi government has attributed the pollution largely to stubble burning in the neighboring states of Punjab and Haryana. However, a new study reveals that Madhya Pradesh is now facing a more significant stubble burning crisis than either Punjab or Haryana.

According to the latest report from the Indian Agricultural Research Institute (IARI), Madhya Pradesh has surpassed both Punjab and Haryana in the number of stubble burning incidents recorded last week. The IARI reported that from October 19 to October 25, Madhya Pradesh recorded 536 cases of stubble burning.

In comparison, Punjab reported 401 incidents, while Haryana lagged considerably behind with just 192 cases. The IARI report highlights that the stubble burning issue appears to be escalating more severely in Madhya Pradesh than in the other two states.

Additionally, Uttar Pradesh and Rajasthan also reported higher stubble burning numbers than Haryana. Uttar Pradesh recorded 192 incidents last week, while Rajasthan noted stubble burning in 203 locations.

Despite the overall decline in stubble burning cases, the data suggests a worrying trend as Madhya Pradesh emerges as a significant contributor to the problem.
